Is my chronic bronchitis really just that, or something worse?

I am 20 years old and for the past 3 years I have been having repeating stints of bronchitis and its always the same pattern. I get over the last case of bronchitis, I retain the cough for weeks, my throat gets sore, and I get bronchitis again. Is it just that I'm susceptible to bronchitis, or is it something worse? I've read that chronic coughs and bronchitis is one sign of lung cancer... How possible is this, and is it something to be worried about?
